Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), received the prestigious “Order of Friendship” from Russian President Vladimir Putin in a ceremony held in the Grand Kremlin Palace on Monday.
The award was in recognition of the role played by Afreximbank revitalising trade and economic relations between Africa and Russia and as well as the rapidly rising trade and investment relations between Russia and Africa.

This is the first time the Russian National honour has been conferred on an African.
The Russia–Africa Summit and Economic Forum took place on 23–24 October in Sochi.
Dr. Benedict Okey Oramah assumed the position of President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in September 2015.
Prior to his current role, he was the Executive Vice President in charge of Business Development and Corporate Banking (BDCB), a position he occupied from October 2008 to September 2015.
The Order of Friendship is a state decoration established by Boris Yeltsin, the first president of the Russian Federation.
